Youth step up for roles advising Gladstone council

NINE young Gladstone residents will be the voice of youth in local government after they were appointed to the regional youth council.

Katie Jayne Morgan, Louise Van Wyk, Bonnie Lawler, Zac Smith, Christopher Ibell, Erin Deardon, Sarah Janson, Lachlan Muller and Benjamin Govan were selected following a short-listing and interview process undertaken by the Gladstone Regional Council's youth development team in April.

The youth councillors will get their first taste of public life when they meet with councillors and the council department on Wednesday.

The youth council will include a chairperson, deputy chairperson and seven general members, and will act as a formal advisory committee to the council on youth-related issues.

Members will serve an initial one-year term.

Mayor Gail Sellers said it was wonderful to see such a diverse representation of young residents.
