THE Observer's Facebook friends have shared photos of what they got up to over the Queen's Birthday long weekend.

Activities ranged from the Boyne Tannum HookUp to camping in a quiet spot, gardening and hanging out by the water.

Amanda Leigh became a convert to the delights of the Boyne Tannum HookUp, spending Sunday taking in all the event had to offer during her first time there.

She managed to draw Ernie Dingo away from his fish filleting session for a quick photo, which turned out to be a highlight of the weekend.

"I've been here 10 years and have never been before," Amanda said of the HookUp.

"It was not too crowded. It was great.

"I watched Ernie and his mate filleting fish, watched the duck race and ate a lot of food.

"They had a band playing, so I stopped and listened to that for a while.

"I probably did about five laps, going around and around."

Amanda secured her favourite photo from the weekend by asking Ernie if she could take a selfie with him.

He stopped his filleting session to comply, picking up a big knife to pose with.

"We got another one with me holding the knife, which is when we got a pic of him with the scared face," Amanda said.

"He was so down to earth, a nice guy."

Amanda, a contractor for TJM Rail Solutions, said she would definitely go to HookUp again next year, probably for all three days.

Kerry Myers spent the long weekend in the garden putting together a surprise for a family member.

She said her mother-in-law had recently moved in and was away in holidays, so she thought she would surprise her and make her own little area.

"I lifted all of her plants up off the ground so she doesn't have to so much bending," Kerry said.

Once I got started I got carried away. I used mostly recycled materials to build the shelving and spent the weekend repotting every plant.

"She loves bromeliads and will be so stoked to see they are up and out of the sun.

"I can't wait for her to come home. It was worth every second. I just hope I didn't kill any!"
