Youngsters find plenty to do at marina
NOBODY was happier than Declan Scriffignano to see the sun was shining and the fish were biting at the Gladstone Marina on Monday.
The 11-year-old was making the most of the beautiful weather on the second week of the school holidays, bringing his fishing rod and tackle box to the marina.
"We fish a lot, it's fun. You never know what it will be when you pull it up," Declan said.
"Today I caught a bream."
Declan was joined by his brother Caelan and friend Declan King, 9.
"On Sunday we caught a 32cm bream. I'm fishing with my dad on Wednesday on a charter trip," the Gladstone Central State School student said.
Matilda King, 5, and her big sister Isabella, 11, were with their mum at Spinnaker cafe and watching their brother fish.
"On the holidays I've been at a friend's house and swimming," Isabella said.
The girl's mother said Matilda was a keen bike rider and she had to drive all the way back home when Matilda realised she forgot her bike.
Friends Alanah Saunders and Amber Baldwin cast a line with Indi, Kayleigh and Paige Rayner at the other end of the marina.
Kayleigh was having a ball with her sisters, enjoying the outdoors.
"I caught a crab today. I almost caught a fish, but it came off," she said.
Amber, 15, has been working a lot at her casual job at McDonald's and is happy it's holiday time.
