Young woman with anger issues gets bail

A WHITSUNDAYS woman who is facing a string of serious charges has been granted bail after a court ruled the conditions it would impose on her would deter her from re-offending.

Amanda Maree Fenn, 20, has been behind bars since her arrest earlier this year.

Defence barrister Peter Nolan told the Brisbane Supreme Court on Friday there was the very real risk she could remain in jail for up to a year before her matter is heard due to the schedule of criminal court sitting dates in the region.

"She is a young offender and given there are only criminal sittings twice a year in the region she could actually spend her 21st birthday behind bars," he said.

"She could actually spend more than a year in jail depending on when her trial is set down for."

The Crown opposed the bail application arguing Ms Fenn posed a high risk of re-offending and had clear anger management issues.

However, Justice Martin Daubney took a different view and granted her bail as long as she adhered to strict conditions which included living independently from her family at Cannonvale.

"I am persuaded the risks of re-offending can be outweighed by the proposed bail conditions imposed on her," he said.

Ms Fenn will be required to report to police three times per week.
