Young Oxford gives Gunners star a lesson
HE is not due to get his secondary school results until next week but 16-year-old West Ham midfielder Reece Oxford was given full marks for his English Premier League debut in the 2-0 win over Arsenal.
The youngest player to represent the Hammers, and second youngest to debut in the EPL behind Matthew Briggs who ran out for Fulham in 2007 at 16 years and 65 days, Oxford (pictured) did an exceptional job on Gunners star Mesut Ozil, an effort that drew praise from new West Ham manager Slaven Bilic.
"He is definitely going to be a big player. His ability, coolness, quality, physical and technical, and tactical also. We have to manage him now, and not only on the pitch," Bilic said.
In other results, a long-range strike from Philippe Coutinho four minutes from full-time gave Liverpool a 1-0 away win over Stoke, and a late header by substitute Shane Long gave Southampton a point from a 2-2 away draw against Newcastle.
