A MAROOCHYDORE butcher will serve up a mutant roast for the holiday season, and plenty are rushing to get their order in.

The Frankenstein-style roast, affectionately named the turducken, is a combination of turkey, duck and chicken.

While it's been popular overseas for years it's yet to become an Australian tradition.

But Meatworld's Mick Empleman hopes to change that, catering to people who want it all at Christmas dinner.

While he originally expected 150 orders by Christmas, he said they've already reached a quarter of that.

"We've just launched them and they're going nuts. We had 40 orders by Monday," Mr Empleman said.

"It's easy as it's everything rolled into one. Instead of cooking three different roasts it's all there."

The turducken weighs on average about 5.5kg, but families can order the size they want to suit them.

"It's a chicken inside a duck, inside a turkey. It's all boned out," he said.

"They're just a novelty but they go well with the Christmas feast."

Each slice contains portions of chicken, duck, and turkey with stuffing in between the layers.

"Depending on the size of the roast it takes five hours to cook in a 150 degree oven, averaging 60-75 minutes per kilogram," Mr Empleman said.

"Slow cooked and delicious."

Meatworld marketing manager Annie Scanlan said those hungry for turducken on their table could pick one up early and keep it in the freezer until Christmas.

"By the amount of phone calls received it looks like we need to create a mini production line to meet demand," Ms Scanlan said.

"You should see people's faces when they come in to collect their turducken.

"They are thrilled."

You can order your turducken from Meatworld for $80 on 54510522.
