MP encourages community to make a strong choice

MEMBER for Gladstone Liz Cunningham is encouraging the community to have its say on the state's Strong Choices consultation, underway to obtain the community's opinions on the choices available to reduce the state government's $80 billion debt.

Through our website, constituents can access the People's Budget, an interactive poll where you can submit your own views on debt reduction.

It also looks at ways savings on interest could be directed to supporting other infrastructure and social needs.

However, the poll has received some criticism, wtih APN's Australian Regional Media digital editor Mark Furler among those criticising the state Treasurer's plans.

He said the way the survey was set up left participants with little option but to push yes when asked about asset sales if they wanted to reach the prescribed target.

"And as one blogger rightly pointed out, the way the survey is set up when you push no, the answer goes to yes. My advice - push it back to no," he wrote.

Submissions to People's Budget close on May 19.
