Yoga pose helps calm the mind and deal with anxiety

I HAVE had many students ask why we sit in sukhasana, or in meditation, with our index finger touching the tip of our thumb.

This is known as a mudra, something I have recently started teaching, especially to the disabled as the benefits are phenomenal when you have a restriction in your body flexibility.

This is the first yoga mudra pose is known as Gyan Mudra or the Mudra of Knowledge.

Practice this mudra when doing meditations, relaxing, at the office, at school….anywhere really.

It's perfect when you do it early in the mornings with a fresh mind, however, you can use it as an anchor any time of the day.

Touch the tip of your index finger with the tip of your thumb. The other three fingers, you may keep straight or just keep free, doesn't matter, even if they are slightly bent.

This is one of the commonly used mudra when practicing yoga.

Remember this is a very beneficial mudra and anyone can practice this.

As the name suggests, this mudra is meant to increase your concentration and memory power. So when we use it during meditation, it helps to still the mind so that we can relax and focus.

This mudra sharpens your brain power, and has the ability to cure insomnia.

Remember, practicing this mudra regularly can help you to heal yourself of all mental and psychological disorders like anger, stress, anxiety and depression.
