Bird lovers appeal for political parties to save species
CENTRAL Queensland bird lovers have called on all political parties to protect Australia's most threatened birds from extinction.
BirdLife Capricornia said the Capricorn Yellow Chat should be a key Federal Election focus - the local little bloke is listed as critically endangered, with only 250 remaining in the wild.
The chat lives nowhere else in the world.
Group members have worked hard to raise public awareness about this bird, which has included delivering puppet shows to more tan 600 schoolchildren.
Secretary Allan Briggs said the cost of saving endangered birds was about $380,000 a species, while protecting the Capricorn Yellow Chat cost about $107,000 a year.
