Yaralla improves despite setback

BOYNE Tannum defeated Yaralla 6-0 in a fast-paced game at the weekend.

Yaralla coach Warren Wales said the game had been a disappointment after playing the same team last weekend and drawing 2-2.

“It was an off-game for us; Boyne Tannum seemed to want the ball more than our guys did and they dominated the midfield,” he said.

“In the first half we didn’t come to play, but the second half was a big improvement for us.”

Wales said the best players for Yaralla were Brendan Mortimer, who started up front and then dropped back to the midfield, and striker Sam Pitt.

“Brendan started leading the guys in the midfield and Sam was physical and dominant on the ball up front,” he said.

Yaralla are now placed just outside the top four on the ladder.

“We need to start getting results our way and pick up a few wins. We’re aiming for the top four and the whole first division are very close in points on the ladder,” Wales said. “Our team needs to show more commitment, not only to training, but committing to play the full 90 minutes.”

The start of Yaralla’s season had been heavily disrupted. However they were improving with game.

“We scramble well in defence and the opposition have to work hard to score a goal against us, but we need to take control of the whole game,” Wales said.
