Yaralla goes down fighting in close one-day match

YARALLA fell just 13 runs short of victory in a match against Frenchville at the weekend.

Yaralla bowled first and Frenchville made 7/223 off their allotted 50 overs.

Thirteen-year-old Nathan Spencer, playing his first senior game, starred with the ball taking 2/30.

Nabeel Yunus 2/41, Jay Stevens 2/47 and Warren Lamberth 1/37 were the other wicket takers.

In reply Yaralla fought valiantly, being bowled out for 208 in the 49th over, with Jason Batchelor 66, Dylan Cross 31 and Raj Devadoss 24.

Yaralla team captain Michael Slatter said he wasn't disappointed with the results.

"Overall it was a pretty good performance," he said.

"We gave it our all. I'm happy with the day's efforts."

Yaralla is looking forward to the official start of the local cricket season in a few weeks.

The winners for this weekend's Yaralla Sports Club Capricorn Cup cricket challenge matches, The Glen and Frenchville, will battle it out in two weeks.
