Yandina Seven hearing postponed indefinitely pending review

A HEARING for the Yandina Seven has been shelved pending the outcome of a review into the Newman government's anti-bikie legislation.

Lawyers for the seven men successfully applied in the Maroochydore Magistrates Court this afternoon to have the hearing de-listed.

Joshua Shane Carew, Eric Ferdinand Felhaber, Scott Michael Conley, Paul Jeffery Lansdowne, Patrick Francis Maloney, Steven Michael Smith and Dan Whale had been due to face hearing on June 29.

The men, who are alleged to have links to the Rebels, were charged under the State Government's Vicious Lawless Association Disestablishment Act after allegedly meeting together at the Yandina Hotel on November 1, 2013.

In seeking to have the hearing de-listed, their lawyers argued that the State Government had declared its intent to repeal or replace the legislation.

They submitted it would be a waste of court resources and unjust to the men to have a trial when the legislation could be done by the end of the year.

Magistrate Rod Madsen, in deciding to vacate the scheduled hearing, acknowledged that the review into the VLAD legislation could have "consequences".

He said the community wanted to "see the end" of the matter but it could be unjust to proceed while the review was taking place.

He set the matter down again for mention again on January 29.
