Yacht club puts on after party to celebrate with sailors

MEET the sailors whose gruelling yacht race from Brisbane will come to an end this weekend.

The Gladstone Yacht Club is hosting an after-party, and locals are invited.

The Brisbane to Gladstone Yacht Race is the highlight of the year for Gladstone's sailing community.

Gladstone Yacht Club manager Brian Dawson said locals should enjoy the extraordinary atmosphere.

"In years gone by we used to do a big party on Saturdays down here," he said.

"The town's changed a little, and the customers have changed a little, and we sort of felt we were neglecting the sailors a little."

Race winners will be awarded on Sunday afternoon.

Those attending will be able to unwind at the yacht club, enjoy a rum or a soft drink, and be part of one of the country's biggest sailing events.

A family friendly party will kick off at 2.30pm on Sunday, and live music will play from 6pm.
