Ultimate Warrior's final TV appearance

Wrestling legend Ultimate Warrior dies

THE Ultimate Warrior, one of the biggest names in professional wrestling from the 1980s, has died less than 24 hours after his final television appearance.

News of his passing was announced on Twitter by World Wrestling Entertainment's executive vice president.

Warrior, born James Hellwig, was only just inducted into the WWE's Hall Of Fame over the weekend, the night before the company's biggest show of the year, WrestleMania 30.

He appeared on the pay per view and on weekly program Monday Night RAW the next night, addressing legions of fans for the first time in years.

RAW airs live in Australia midday Tuesday on pay TV channel Fox 8.

WWE.com has confirmed the news.

"WWE is shocked and deeply saddened to learn of the passing of one of the most iconic WWE Superstars ever, The Ultimate Warrior," they wrote.

"Warrior began his WWE career in 1987 and quickly went on to become one of the biggest stars in WWE history. Warrior became WWE Champion at WrestleMania VI, defeating Hulk Hogan in an epic encounter.

"We are grateful that just days ago, Warrior had the opportunity to take his rightful place in the WWE Hall of Fame and was also able to appear at WrestleMania 30 and Monday Night Raw to address his legions of fans.

"WWE sends its sincere condolences to Warrior's family, friends and fans.

Warrior was 54 and is survived by his wife Dana and his two daughters.
