WOWEE MAHI! The teen with a knack for reeling in big ones
FROM massive marlin to monstrous mahi mahi - this Coast teen knows how to reel 'em in big.
Fourteen-year-old Jayden Matthews has a knack for the sport of fishing and just recently caught an estimated 60kg black marlin on an 8kg line, 18 miles from Mooloolaba.
Jayden, who has been fishing with his dad and uncle since he was about two years old, said he loved getting out on the water.
"It's a challenge to catch each fish and I just love the atmosphere," he said.
"It was a real struggle to bring in the marlin and at the end of it I could hardly stand up."
After his efforts to bring in the perfect catch, Jayden said the marlin was tagged and released safely.
"We always let the marlin go," he said.
"It's a sport and we think the right thing to do is to release them."
If Jayden had his way, he'd have a line in the water every day but unfortunately for him this just isn't plausible.
"We try to get out as much as we can but we are always really busy and I have to go to school," he said.
"It's unreal how much you learn when you're out on the water."
