AUBRE Harmse walked from the field after a loss of 29-5 to Frenchville unable to explain what had triggered such a devastatingly bad performance.

He did not know whether it was poor preparation, a lack of energy or a complacency issue.

What he does know is it has been a long time since he felt the same way.

The last 'shocker' as he called it, was way back in 2013.

For the first time since, the Goats have to sit down and work out how to fix a problem they have not identified.

Like fixing a broken car, Harmse said the team will have to pull apart the loss and then come up with a solution.

Until then, he is trying to brush the ill feeling away and not think about the match.

"It was a bit of a shocker, we were just not there to play," he said.

"When game time came we were on the back foot."

Frenchville scored the first 29 points, and only a consolation try to Rudolf Wentzel got the Goats on the board.

Harmse said the only positives to the match were it was not a finals match and the reserves side showed the club is strong. "It is only one match," he said.

"The reserves won 55-7. They played really well.

"They play such a good games the top graders need to watch out for their spots."

After playing leaders Frenchville, Gladstone looks to have an easier match next week away to University at Rugby Park in Rockhampton.

University are last on the Central Queensland Rugby Union ladder and offer the chance to rebound for the Goats.

Goats' horrible loss Frenchville 29 defeated Gladstone Goats 5. Gladstone won the reserves, 55-7 over Biloela.
