Work in pipeline

THERE are a lot of big numbers floating around the LNG projects.

These include the pipelines that will carry coal seam gas to Gladstone.

The first sections of more than 530km of steel pipe for the Australia Pacific LNG project were welded together earlier this month, 15km south of Miles.

This pipeline will transport CSG from the gas fields in the Surat and Bowen basins to an LNG facility on Curtis Island.

Two welding crews consisting of 120 people will perform automatic welding both internally and externally, joining pipes up to 18m in length.

The process will be slow and crews will aim to complete up to 2.25km of pipe per day during construction.
