Up-trade those old handbags

IT WILL be a handbag lover’s heaven in Gladstone this month.

One of the most revered fashion accessories a woman can own, the humble handbag will become a prized possession when Variety Queensland the Children’s Charity hosts its latest fundraising event on May 14.

Women across the region will be rejoicing as they get the opportunity to trade in their old handbag for a new version when attending the Old Bags Lunch.

The fundraising lunch is the ultimate fling with fashion with women across Queensland quickly falling in love with this new fundraising concept.

It is a relatively old concept that has been given a new twist.

And all will be revealed in the International Room of Rydges Gladstone from 11am, as up to 150 local women attend the fundraising lunch.

Those attending are invited to bring an old handbag to be donated to Lifeline and go home with a brand new handbag.

Variety Queensland regional development manager Carly Quinn said there would be 100 new handbags on display around the room when women enter on the day.

Ms Quinn said the women would have the opportunity to bid on the handbags via a silent auction.

Fashion guru and founder of Shopping By Appointment Mandy Hargreaves will be guest speaker at the lunch providing women with some handy fashion tips and faux pas.

Tickets cost $55 per person or $550 for a table of 10, which includes a two-course lunch and selected wines.

Corporate tables are also available at a cost of $1100, which in addition to lunch and wine includes 10 tickets, priority seating, VIP gifts for each guest plus recognition as a corporate table sponsor.

There will also be the opportunity to bid on a further five handbags that each contain fabulous holiday packages – the destinations only revealed once the handbags are opened.

The initial allocation of 120 tickets has been sold but a further 30 tickets have been released for women still interested in attending.

Hoping to raise about $8000 on the day, all proceeds from the event are dedicated to empowering the lives of sick, disadvantaged and special needs children across Queensland.
