Woman 'lucky to be alive' after horrific rollover

A YOUNG woman is lucky to be alive after rolling her car several times on a country road near Oakey.

The 22-year-old driver and sole occupant of a Holden Commodore suffered head injuries and a broken leg when the vehicle rolled on the Oakey Biddeston Rd on Friday afternoon.

The vehicle was extensively damaged in the crash which shattered and collapsed the windscreen, and crumbled the front end of the older-model car.

Oakey police were called to the scene about 3.30pm and located the vehicle in a paddock, about 10m from the road.

The woman was cut from the car and taken to Toowoomba Hospital in a stable condition.

Police told The Chronicle the woman was lucky to have survived the horrific rollover.

Investigations into the cause of the crash are continuing, with police probing whether speed was a major contributing factor.

Police are urging all drivers to take care on the roads and be mindful of the Fatal Five: speeding, driving under the influence of a drug or liquor, wearing seatbelts, not driving while fatigued, and inattention and distractions.
