AT 118kg, Mackay mother of two Jaime O'Regan was miserable in her skin and too exhausted to play with her kids.

She was 38 when she decided it was time to make a change and take back her life - before her health took it from her.

"When you're overweight and have been for a long time you really don't realise how much of an impact it's having on you," she said.

"I have two small children, a boy that's seven and a girl that's six... they would constantly yell out to come and play and I'd always just say 'yeah in a minute,' but stay sitting on the couch or only go out for a second.

"Not because I didn't want to but because I was honestly buggered even doing that... and my son has autism, which is very full on, so when it finally came time to exercise I was just too exhausted and drained 24/7."

Ms O'Regan said she had "been big" her whole life and tried countless diets and gyms but never had been able to overcome the mental struggle to curb her eating habits.

"I was an emotional eater. If I had a really hard day with my children or son I would eat.

"I would deliberately not bring chocolate or soft drinks into the house but then I would go back out and buy it," she said.

"Then, after my gorge session, I'd feel so guilty. Eating was my worst enemy.

"As my weight got heavier I found myself wanting to go out less, I was just becoming more and more miserable."

Finally, in February 2015, Ms O'Regan decided to undergo gastric sleeve surgery and in two years has managed to drop down to almost half her weight - 62kg.

"My family have been extremely supportive," she said.

"They were worried at first but I explained to them that my weight could be the thing that kills me and I need to do something about it.

"It's not the easiest decision to make and it's been a long journey but it has given me a brand new life and changed me for the better.

"Not only am I energetic and happier, but my children were just so excited.

"My daughter said 'Mum I can wrap my arms around you now' and my son calls me 'skinny mum'."
