"Yellow-bellied black snake" comes to enjoy woman's patio

A SMALL, slithery fiend had a woman calling firefighters to the rescue after the "yellow-belly black snake" gave her a fright on her patio.

When crews arrived at her house about 9pm on Tuesday, the woman was on a chair screaming and trying to keep her dogs away from the snake.

The snake did not pose a huge threat as it was only eight inches long.

Crews don't usually attend jobs like this, but in this case they were on their way back to the station and it was one of the firefighters wives.

Her husband, a firefighter on duty at the time, let the snake back into the bushes.
