Woman fined for kicking, punching ex’s new partner

A 19-YEAR-OLD woman who kicked and punched another young woman in the face came before the Gladstone Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

Carly Tate Shingles pleaded guilty to one charge of assault occasioning bodily harm.

The court heard the defendant attended a Kent St residence at about 2pm on March 11 to visit an ex-partner.

The defendant was allegedly called a slut by her ex's new partner, who was also present at the time.

In response, the defendant kicked the victim under the chin, punched her in the face and pulled the victim to her feet by her hair.

The court heard a witness assisted to break up the fight and restrain the defendant.

The victim was taken to Gladstone Hospital for treatment.

Her injuries included bruising and swelling.

When sentencing Shingles, Magistrate Russell Warfield acknowledged there was an element of provocation, but said the defendant's reaction was extreme.

Shingles was placed on probation for 12 months and ordered to pay $1200 compensation.
