Wolves win in community league

PLAYERS were rapt to get out and play for points in round one of Community League football at the weekend.

In men’s division one, Yaralla and Valleys fought out a one-all draw in a match which saw plenty of opportunities missed by home team Yaralla.

Yaralla coach Joe Smith praised the performance as the best of the year, and he felt both teams needed little encouragement with points on the line for the first time.

"We played a lot better possession football and also created space when we were off the ball," he said.

Goalkeeper Cam Stewart made a couple of timely saves and Dan Fleming was very solid down back, Smith said, as well as new striker Ben Smith, who scored the solitary Yaralla goal.

BTFC went down to Wolves, 1-nil, in a high standard game on Sunday, with both sides having patches where they controlled the ball and defences held sway.

Wolves’ goal came moments before the half time siren from a corner at a time when shots in close were at a premium.
