Winx withdrawal opens door for Queen Elizabeth rivals
Winx is the best horse in Australia and it is a shame that she will not chase her 10th straight win in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes tomorrow.
But her absence does mean all four Group 1 races at Royal Randwick will be competitive betting affairs.
Winx was set to start the Queen Elizabeth Stakes at $1.50 or shorter and she may have curtailed betting for the race but since her withdrawal there has been support for The United States, Preferment, Hauraki, Lucia Valentina and Criterion.
The Queen Elizabeth Stakes has generally not been a race for favourites in recent times but the winner is normally well-supported and the 2008 victory of Sarrera at 50/1 is the only real boilover in the modern history of the race.
The Sydney Cup is another competitive betting race and there is very little separating the Chris Waller-trained trio of Who Shot Thebarman, Libran and Grand Marshal.
Favourites have won five out of the past eight editions and it is tough to see another stayer being able to upstage the leading chances.
One race that has been prone to upsets in recent years is the Australian Oaks, but the connections of Jameka will be hoping that changes on Saturday.
Streama (2012) is the only favourite to have won the Australian Oaks since 2006. Horses the quality of Faint Perfume, Shamrocker, Lucia Valentina and Winx all been beaten as the punter's elect in recent years
The other Group 1 event is the Queen Of The Turf Stakes - a race that was once dominated by favourites.
From 2004 to 2012 the only favourite to lose was Hot Danish in 2009, but in the past two years Gai Waterhouse has won with Diamond Drille (40/1) and Amanpour (20/1) at long odds.
Azkadellia is a deserving favourite, but there are some talented horses at juicy odds in this field that may cause another boilover.
There is already plenty of value on offer in Queen Elizabeth Stakes betting markets, but you are sure to score the best odds possible with the Enhanced Odds special at Ladbrokes.
Ladbrokes is offering enhanced odds on every single runner in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes field, which means you will score the top price for any of the many chances in the Group 1 event.
