Wildcats claw out first title in four years

BASKETBALL: The Perth Wildcats have beaten Adelaide 93-59 in the deciding game of the NBL grand final series to claim a record sixth championship.

It was the first title for Perth, who lost to the New Zealand Breakers in last year's decider, since 2010.

Wildcats import Jermaine Beal (pictured) was named grand final MVP after scoring 15 points yesterday, on top of his 38 points from the first two games.

After taking game two in Adelaide 89-84 on Friday night, the 36ers opened strongly, big man Luke Schenscher dragging in six rebounds in the first quarter as the visitors led that count 14-7. They trailed 18-15 on the scoreboard, however, and when Perth opened a 47-29 lead by half-time, the writing was on the wall.

Adelaide, wooden-spooners last season, were best served by forward Anthony Petrie who finished with a game high 20 points and four rebounds.
