Wide Bay Burnett braces for afternoon storm

THE Wide Bay and Burnett are bracing for severe thunderstorms this afternoon.

The Bureau of Meteorology is predicting that heavy rainfall, that may lead to flash flooding and damaging winds, will hit Bundaberg, Hervey Bay, Fraser Island, Hervey Bay waters, Maryborough, Roolara Forestry, Town of 1770, Childers and Biggenden in the next several hours.

Severe thunderstorms are no longer occuring in the south east and the warning for this district has been cancelled.

At Maryborough, a car parked at Station Square was crushed by a tree after storms moved through this afternoon.

Other vehicles were submerged and damaged as the storm ripped through the Maryborough Hervey Bay area.
