Thieves pinch worm farm from community garden

SLIMY and opportunistic thieves have created another road block for the Calliope Community Garden, nicking the group's worm farm.

The Calliope Garden Club is working to establish a community garden at Bunting Park but some heavy-handed thieves are making it difficult. The worm farm, two blue plastic drums and hay bales have been stolen.

Club member Karen Porter said they noticed the goods missing on Saturday during their weekly meeting.

"We're not even at the stage where people can steal produce, because items are being stolen that we need to use to create the garden," she said. She believes it was adults who stole the goods - because of the weight and size of the worm farm and drums.

The group will build a fence around their garden, in a bid to keep thieves out. "It's extremely disappointing," she said.
