More whooping cough vaccines are on the way

A SHIPMENT of whooping cough vaccine will land in Australia this month.

Boostrix, the booster shot for adults, has been in short supply following "unprecedented global demand" said pharmaceuticals company GSK.

The company is expecting another delivery this month.

There have been reports of the shot not being available in Gladstone.

GSK said pharmacies should check with different wholesalers.

It said the company could not instantly meet demand because it took six months to make the vaccine.

Queensland Health has said the vaccine is available at Gladstone Hospital to pregnant women over 28 weeks.
