RON Selby is an inquisitive man.

So when a 35mm roll of undeveloped film was dropped in his letterbox, "I had to have it developed," he said.

Mr Selby said the roll of film was left in the letterbox of his Drayton workshop on Brisbane St in December.

But the roll of film's provenance, who put it in Mr Selby's letterbox and why remain a mystery.

"So you scratch your head and think, what on earth is this?" he said.

"They could have been photos of a wedding or a birthday party, anything that people could treasure."

When Mr Selby had the roll of film developed earlier this month, the mystery deepened.

Images of smiling girls and family pets emerged, but the photos appeared to have been taken at least 20 years ago, judging by the models of vehicles in the background of the shots and two photos that show the now-defunct Gatton Squash Courts and Gym.

"It would be nice to think (the roll of film) is at least 15 or 20 years old," Mr Selby said. "It's all a bit curious, really."

Inquiries with neighbours didn't provide Mr Selby with answers, although one woman said she thought perhaps some children had found the roll of film on the ground and put it in Mr Selby's letterbox.

Mr Selby would like to see the photos returned to their owner and the mystery of why the film was delivered to him solved.
