The Castle, Red Dog our favourite Aussie movies

WHEN it comes to Australian movies it seems there is plenty to love.

In the lead-up to Australia Day, The Observer has been asking our Facebook likers about their favourite Australian things.

Responding to a question about their favourite Australian movie, there was a wide variety of responses.

But it was The Castle that just came out in front, followed by Red Dog.

The Castle, a Working Dog production, premiered in 1997, featuring Aussie Battlers the Kerrigan family fighting to save their home when the nearby airport wanted to expand.

It starred Michael Caton, Anne Tenney and Stephen Curry.

Red Dog, premiering in 2011, was based on the true story of the Red Dog, who united a local community while roaming the Australian outback in search of his long lost master.

Also popular with readers was The Man from Snowy River, Mad Max, Australia and Crocodile Dundee.

But there were plenty of other movies that got a mention or two, including Muriel's Wedding, Two Hands, Getting Square, Crackerjack and Gallipoli.

What's your favourite Australian movie? Have your say in comments.
