What's on for Seniors Week on Monday

THERE are plenty of activities on for seniors this week after Seniors Week got underway on Saturday.

Activities on today include:

Reverse mortgages

Farnsworth Legal - Gladstone Community Legal Program will present a session on reverse mortgages, outlining risks and benefits, and impact on finances.

It's on at the Calliope CWA Hall from 9am-10am and at the Theiss Room, Community Advisory Service, Gladstone, from 2pm-3pm.

A short course in happiness

This fun-filled course aims to assist people to understand what happiness means and what techniques can be used by individuals to get it.

It's on at the Thiess Room, Community Advisory Service, Gladstone, from 9am-11.30am.

Balance and Breathe

Adam Hansen from Blue Mantis Training Systems will give instruction in tai chi, chi gung, and balance and breathing techniques to help you to maintain an active lifestyle.

The session is at the Agnes Water Community Centre from 10am-11am.

Working with chalk pastels

Denise Wild will help you to discover and learn about chalk pastels to create interesting and creative effects of clouds, faces, flora and water on paper, at the Miriam Vale Community Centre from 10am-12.30pm.

Fitness and flexibility

Learn some stretches and exercises specifically suited to bowlers, golfers, tennis players and swimmers to help improve your game.

All stretches are standing and seated (no floor work).

The session is on at the Boyne Tannum Community Centre from 10.30am-11.15am.

Scrabble for seniors

If you're keen for a session of Scrabble, head to the Boyne Tannum Library from 10.30am-12.30pm.

Palm leaf baskets

Artist Rosemary Anderson will teach participants how to fold and sew palm leaves to create a basket and apply decorations using natural materials.

The session is at the Boyne Tannum Community Centre from 1pm-3pm.

Cooking with Maree

Chef's Toolbox consultant Maree McKelvie will provide a cooking demonstration, making a stove top pizza and chicken risotto, at the Boyne Tannum Community Centre from 1pm-3pm.

All sessions are free unless specified, and are open to people aged 55 and over.
