FRIDAY

$4000 up for grabs at kindy fundraiser

KOOLYANGARRA Kindy is hosting a 200 Club event at the kindy grounds from 6.30-9.30pm.

Tickets are $50 and only 200 are being sold for the chance to win a major prize of $4000 or five prizes of $200.

Tickets include nibbles, beer, wine and soft drink and must be purchased through the kindy 29 Boyne Crescent, Gladstone. Phone 4972 3067 for more details.

This is strictly an 18+ event.

Country music veteran heads to Agnes

COUNTRY music singer Keri McInerney will take to the stage at Agnes Water Tavern from 8pm.

The country music singer has taken out more than 50 music awards over her career, which spans about 24 years.

She and music partner Stevie T (Steve Terreberry) are an unstoppable duo who have travelled the country for 15 years, playing at pubs, venues and corporate functions.

Benefit dance at Benaraby

BENARABY Progress Association is hosting a benefit dance at the Benaraby Progress Hall to raise money for Tracey Slatter, who recently underwent a double lung transplant.

Money raised from the event will go to help the family who will spend many months in Brisbane.

The dance is on from 8pm-midnight. Admission is $10 and includes dinner and music by Trevor Gayton. For more information phone 4975 6435 or 4975 3015. 

Cent sale

THE Gladstone Central Committee on the Ageing is hosting a cent sale at the Port Curtis Place Senior Citizens Centre, 83 Oaka Ln.

Doors open at 9.30am for a 10am start. Entry costs $1. Morning tea will be provided with a cake walk, lucky door prize, raffles and lots of prizes on offer.

Cent sale tickets are five for $2.50 or 10 for $5. A bus will be operating on the day. Phone the office on 4972 4465 if you require bus pick-up. 

Night of action for youth

LIFESTYLE Church is hosting another Flipside event at the Lifestyle Centre, 83 Sun Valley Rd, Kin Kora, from 7-9pm.

The event will be themed Full Throttle and includes action-packed games and competitions for students in Year 7-12.

SATURDAY

Derby Games rolls into PCYC

A DOUBLE header roller derby event will be held at the Gladstone PCYC.

The Derby Games will feature Rockhampton's Beef City Brawlers taking on Bundaberg's Rum City Derby Dolls in their second rematch for the season.

The main event will feature Gladstone's Harbour City Hustlers against Byron Bay's The Byron Sirens.

Tickets cost $15 adults and $5 children. Tickets can be purchased online here. Limited tickets will be available on the night.

The first bout kicks off at 5pm with the second at 7pm.

Conquer Cancer with Colour cocktail gala

THE Conquer Cancer with Colour Cocktail Gala will be a night of entertainment at the Quoin Island Resort.

Guests will be transported to the island by ferry, and as they walk into the resort, they will be entertained by two live bands, charity auctions, raffles and a three course meal.

Keeping in the theme, guests are encouraged to dressed in a cancer colour that has touched their lives or someone close to them.

Everyone can play at Under 8s day

EVERYONE can play as Gladstone celebrates National Families Week and Under 8s Week from 2-5pm.

There will be a range of free and low cost activities that all the kids will enjoy including face painting, jumping castles, story time, sensory play activities, art and craft activities, yoga, food stalls and performances by local children.

Venue for the family fun day is the Gladstone Marina stage, Bryan Jordan Dr, Gladstone.

Nourishing cooking class

A NOURISHING sustenance cooking class incorporating GAPS and paleo principles will be held at 1.30pm at Integrative Wellbeing Solutions, 94 Glenlyon St, Gladstone.

Tribute to First Queens of Country

AMBER Joy Poulton is heading to Gladstone to perform a tribute to the First Queens of Country at the Gladstone QRI Hall from 7.30pm. 

The Holy Men will provide the music while Amber will sing hits such as Jolene, Workin' 9-5, I Fall To Pieces, When Will I Be Loved and plenty more.

Ronald McDonald visits for fun day

RONALD McDonald will visit Calliope on Saturday for a family fun day at the new Calliope Travel Centre.

The family fun day will run from noon to 4pm, with a special one-hour visit from Ronald McDonald at 12.30pm.

There will be plenty of fun-filled activities including face painting. 

Mental as Anything plays in Gladstone

Mental As Anything will play in Gladstone at The Harvey Road Tavern from 8.30pm. Entry is free. 

They'll play some fresh music and plenty of their hits, including Too Many Times, If You Leave Me, Can I Come Too? and He's Just No Good For You.

Miriam Vale Lions Markets in the Park

THE Miriam Vale Lions Club hosts the Miriam Vale Markets on the third Saturday of each month at Blomfield St, Miriam Vale.

Stroll through the delightful cool and shady park to view a variety of stalls, or try a sizzling fillet steak, sausage or bacon burger.

The markets run from 7am to noon.

Yoga sessions for kids

REACH Yoga for Kids is a way to assist children to increase coordination, strength and balance, help promote calm, balanced energy, breathing and focus, build emotional awareness and resiliency, promote movement and have fun.

The six-week course is for children aged three to 10 years. It will be held at the Castletower Building, 10 Hayes Ave, Boyne Island, from 10.30-11.15am.

Get fit with Parkrun

STOCKLAND Gladstone and Parkrun Australia faciliate a unique, community run program that provides free weekly timed 5km running events for people of all ages and abilities every Saturday morning from 7am - 8am at Lions Park.

The Observer Home and Leisure Expo

THE 2014 Gladstone Observer Home and Leisure Expo will provide plenty of opportunities to check out what's new for your home, and also great ways to spend your leisure time.

As well as indoor exhibits, there will be outdoor activities and showcases. Exclusive holiday prizes will be up for grabs as well as random prizes at the door.

There also will be demonstrations, free face painting, free jumping castle, entertainment, and food and drinks for sale.

The expo will be held at the Gladstone Entertainment Centre from 10am to 3pm.

Million Paws Walk

THE RSPCA Million Paws Walk will be held at Canoe Point, Tannum Sands, to help raise money for the Friends of RSPCA Gladstone.

Registrations can be made on the day from 8am, with the walk starting at 9am.

There will be competitions, prizes, novelty events, a barbecue and raffles. Participants are encouraged to dress up with their pooches to be in the running for the coveted Best Dressed prize.

Tree planting session

FITZROY Basin Association, Boyne Calliope Sub Region, Gladstone Regional Council and Friends of Police Creek are hosting a series of tree plantings along Police Creek as part of a five-year restoration project.

Police Creek flows through Gladstone into Lake Callemondah and connects to the Great Barrier Reef, so planting trees along creek banks will help improve local water quality and restore habitats for wildlife.

A session at Southern Cross Close, Telina will run from 8am to noon, followed by a sausage sizzle. People attending should take closed-in shoes, sunscreen, sunsafe clothing, gloves and water.

Rotary Kmart Markets

THE Rotary Club of Gladstone Midday Markets are held on the third Saturday of each month in the Kmart car park on Phillip St, Gladstone.

There is a wide range of goods on offer including food, coffee, cakes, jewellery, hand-made soaps, plants, toys, clothes and bric-a-brac.

There also is entertainment from local artists. The markets run from 7.30am to 12.30pm.

Auditions for musical

HIGH school student auditions for The Chrysalides musical, a romantic comedy, will be held in the St Stephen Lutheran school hall at 1.30pm.

Interested students need to take  along a piece they are comfortable with, know their vocal range and just have some fun.

The Chrysalides musical will be staged in the Gladstone Entertainment and Convention Centre from November 7-8.

Cedar Galleries Farmers Market

EVERY Sunday morning Cedar Galleries is a gathering place for families enjoying breakfast, shoppers with baskets gathering up a range of fresh produce and gourmet goodies, stallholders, kids jumping on the castle and alpacas happily handfeeding with visitors at the gate. 

You can even have your tarot or angel cards read.

The market stalls and café breakfast trade runs from 8am until midday every Sunday.
