New winter menu

Lightbox Espresso and Wine Bar's kitchen will be closed from 2pm today to prepare for the launch of its new winter menu. They will reopen as per normal hours tomorrow.

Former Tannum Sands man Calvin Swart will again grace our screens on The Voice Australia. Tonight he will compete against two other members of Team Delta in the super battles. In the first battle round Jessie J chose Jack Poller over Swart, but he was then saved by Delta Goodrem. Tune in at 7.30pm on Channel 9.

Snap happy

The Gladstone Camera Club will hold its regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, June 7 at Valleys Juniors Rugby League Football Club on Aerodrome Rd from 7.30pm. The workshop and demonstration will feature High Key Photography which is a lighting technique that produces images that are bright and not too contrasty. High key photos are characterized by the dominance of bright tones and the lack, if not absence, of shadows. More information can be found on their website at

Cent Sale

The QCWA Ambrose Branch will host a cent sale, at their hall, 36 Gentle Annie Rd, Ambrose, on Wednesday morning, June 8, commencing at 10am. Hoy games will be played followed by drawing of fantastic value prizes with extras of lucky door and a great raffle. A delicious and plentiful morning tea will be served and all comers receive a "token of thanks" for coming along. The doors open at 9.30am for a 10am start and everyone is most welcome. Grow orchids

All are welcome to the Boyne Tannum Orchid and Foliage Society's monthly meeting on Thursday, June 9. We meet in the downstairs room of the Boyne Library from 7pm.  Anyone who has an interest in growing orchids, foliage plants, bromeliads, succulents and bonsai will gain knowledge and support from Members. Big book sale

Friends of the Gladstone Library are holding a Big Book Sale on Friday, June 10 between 9am - 5pm, and Saturday, June 11 between 9am - 3pm at Gladstone City Library, Goondoon Street. Bargains galore! Hundreds of books, magazines and dvds. Pay what you want!

Cent sale

Port Curtis Place Senior Citizens Centre will hold its cent sale on Friday, June 10. Doors open at 9.30am, for a 10am start. Morning tea is provided with a cake walk, lucky door, raffles and plenty of prizes on offer. Entry is $1 each. Cent sale tickets cost: 5 for $2.50 or 10 for $5. The centre bus will be operating on the day. Phone the office on 4972 4465 if you require the bus.

Have breakfast

There will be a men's breakfast on Saturday, June 11 at the Gladstone Marina barbecues. Guest speaker will be Kevin Redman, Catholic Parish Priest Gladstone. Cost is $5, bring a friend. Mt Larcom Farmers Markets

Mt Larcom State School is hosting a Farmers Market Day on Sunday, June 12. Locals are invited to bring their produce and farm supplies to sell. You'll need to notify the school if you would like to secure a stall. Equally, if you do not have a lot to sell and would like to combine with other locals, please let us know and we will organise a community stall. There will be no charge to hold a stall so all profits go to you. Please note that we welcome any community organisations to use the day as a fundraiser.
