What Courtney wants Whincup fears

THE V8 Supercars are heading to Winton Raceway this weekend. Winton will not only host races 11 and 12 of the V8 Supercars Championship, but the Fujitsu Developing Series, V8 Utes, Touring Car Masters and Formula Fords will also be racing during the event.

For the V8 Supercars, Saturday will consist of a 20-minute qualifying session, the Top 10 Shootout and 120km of racing. Sunday will feature 20 minutes for qualifying and a 200km race.

Craig Lowndes dominated Winton last year winning both races. Winton Raceway is 3km long and is also known as “Australia's Action Track”. It is called this because of its combination of long straights and tight and twisting turns.

Kelly Racing made its debut last year at Winton Raceway and they are still looking for their first win.

The gap has closed between two-time defending champ Jamie Whincup and championship rival James Courtney owing to Whincup's DNF, last round at Ipswich, and 24 points separate the two in the championship, which is enough to make anyone vulnerable.

Whincup needs to do extremely well in order to keep his lead over championship rivals who are hungry to take him down. For many, Whincup is the benchmark to beat.

Don't miss the V8 action at Winton Raceway this weekend on Channel 7.
