Whale shows off to jetski group near Daydream Island
After we asked for more photos of whales in the region, it seems Whitsunday Jetski Tours got the money shot.
The group posted photos on social media of a very close encounter with a whale in the Whitsundays.
"After stopping our tour to observe this breaching whale in the distance not far from Daydream Island resurfaced right upon us and gave our guests one heck of a show," the group said.
The photos show before, during and after the whale decided to surface near the group.
Workers at Hay Point were delighted to see a whale calf and its mother off the coast of Mackay.
The photo was shared on BMA and BMC's Facebook page.
A BMA spokesman said the Hay Point Coal Terminal recently welcomed the birth of a baby humpback whale next to the offshore berths.
Hay Point services general manager, Peter Hanrahan, said whale sightings from the berths were relatively common this time of the year.
"The team often see dolphins, schools of fish, turtles, sharks and whales with their calves but not often with a newborn," he said.
Another reader sent in a photo of a whale near Seaforth too.
Whale season is traditionally from mid-July until late November.
