Whale calf filmed off Qld Coast

THE first calf of the 2017 whale watching season was spotted by staff aboard Tangalooma Island Resort's whale watching cruise today.

The calf formed part of a pod of three whales making their way down the Coast with the group putting on a show for the nearby boat.

The humpback whale migration begins in April and ends in November each year, where the South Pacific humpback whales migrate from Antarctica to the Whitsundays to mate and give birth to their calves, its a return journey of 16,000 km.
