Weird, wonderful Carnivale on display for children

IT WAS all about the weird and wonderful characters, settings and scenes on display for children viewing the Carnivale exhibition at the Gladstone Regional Art Gallery and Museum on Monday.

Art gallery and museum promotions officer Maddie Cook said they had many activities for children, including computer games and fun activity books.

"The carnivale exhibits the artworks in picture books by authors and illustrators Peter Carnavas, Sarah Davis and Narelle Oliver who are well-known ad respected," she said.

She expected the diorama displays to be popular.

"We have a set up where children can cut out little chairs and beds and create their own diorama too," she said.

Also on display is the Remembering June 1986: Barbara Zerbini exhibition. And children can experience being an artist too.

"With that exhibition children can use the water colour pencils then go home and paint over it with water and it turns the drawing into a water colour painting - it's quite neat," Maddie said.

All the way from the National Art Gallery and Museum, the Elaine and Jim Wolfensohn Gift: Red and Yellow Cases are also on display.

"It's quite special for us to have them here; it's a hands on artwork so they're quite unique," she said.

The gallery and museum is open Monday to Saturday from 10am-5pm and is located on the corner of Goondoon and Bramston Sts.
