UPDATE 5.24PM:

 

The thunderstorm has just knocked out power in the Dawson Road area near Super Cheap Auto.

Drivers ran for their cars along Tank St, even pulling up on the curb to take cover from the hail pelting down.

Those who couldn't get undercover fast enough chose to shelter under the trees opposite Pizza Capers on Goondoon St.

EARLIER:

STORM clouds have been hovering around the Gladstone region today, and just on 5pm it hit the CBD, with hailstones about 10mm in diameter, forcing motorists to scurry for cover.

The BOM weather map shows that the storm will be with us for a while, with some heavy falls expected.

Along with the storm clouds, the temperature dropped to under 20 degrees.
