Water main construction starts in Lyons St

CONSTRUCTION work on a new water main along Lyons St, Gladstone will start on Wednesday for about one month.

The work will ensure Gladstone Regional Council meets fire standards in the area.

Engineering Services portfolio spokesman Rick Hansen said motorists in the Lyons St area and nearby residents should be prepared for traffic disruptions as the works progress.

Work will be carried out on the western side of Lyons St between the intersection with Oaka St and the Gladstone Regional Council depot.

Cr Hansen said there would be a greater presence of work crews and machinery on the road verge, and motorists were urged to be vigilant in following the direction of traffic controllers.

"Lyons Street will be reduced to single lane while works are carried out daily and traffic controllers will be in place to direct motorists," he said.

"The road will reopen to two lanes of traffic each afternoon at the end of construction works.

"Efforts will be made to keep traffic disruptions to a minimum between 6.30am and 6pm but motorists should anticipate delays and consider alternative travel route options."

Cr Hansen said during the works property owners in the area would be advised in advance of planned disruptions which could affect water supply in the area.
