Three-hour marina bridge shutdown today

THERE will be a three-hour disruption to the lifting operations of the Matthew Flinders Gladstone Marina Bridge on Monday.

Gladstone Regional Council engineering services portfolio spokesman Rick Hansen said the bascule bridge would remain in its lowered position from 8.30am to 11.30am for statutory testing work, which includes an oil change on the bridge transformer.

Bridge road access for motorists and pedestrians will not be affected.

"The works have been planned to be as brief as possible but the bridge will need to remain lowered which unfortunately could cause disruptions for some marine operators," Cr Hansen said.

The nature of the works means smaller vessels not requiring the bascule bridge to be raised will still be able to pass under the bridge during these hours.

Cr Hansen said council appreciated the understanding of residents, mariners and visitors to enable the work.

"Council apologises for any inconvenience and encourages marine operators affected by the disruptions to plan."
