Watch out, I’m armed with a club and I mean business

IF you hear someone yell out "fore!" anywhere near the Gladstone Golf Course today, look out. It could be me and let me tell you it probably won't be pretty.

Yes, today I am heading out after the Zinc breakfast show to play some golf all in the name of fun.

It's the Devine Golf Day where a whole bunch of people get their pegs out of the cupboard for some serious four ball Ambrose action, trying to copy the amazement of Adam Scott at the Masters on Monday.

We know it was a sensational win, the first ever for an Aussie, so there may be a few copycats out there today in the hope of becoming the same style of player as Adam.

However, there will be one golfer who will be lucky enough to peg it anywhere near the green, and therefore reduce the likelihood of embarrassing himself and his team. That person would have to be me.

Honestly, the last time I took the clubs out from under the stairs was years ago.

When I say prizes, I mean if I can win a snag on bread and a cold can of liquid refreshment I'll be in front for sure.

I'll have to dust the cobwebs off, polish the sticks with a pair of old Reg Grundies and go out there and pretend to know what I'm doing.

It seems to work for me on the radio hosting thing so pretending with golf shouldn't be too hard. Should it?

I'm hoping to get at least three holes-in-one over the full course, and at the very least six birdies just to shake up the field and win a few prizes over the day.

When I say prizes, I mean if I can win a snag on bread and a cold can of liquid refreshment I'll be in front for sure.

The weather isn't that crash hot for today as the weather bureau is predicting isolated thunderstorms over the course of the golf game, so it could come into play where we have to head to the club house for a while if it rains on the parade.

Good excuse talking up tactics and tips from the pros to make life a little easier out on the course perhaps.

In all seriousness, these golf days are a lot of fun. I've played a few over the years with some funny characters like Paul Vautin, Sam Newman, Dermott Brereton and the interesting Allan Langer.

These guys really know how to play a round of golf and they have a laugh at the same time, which is exactly how I'll be playing today.

My motto: "I'll play as good as I look at 4am." It'll work a treat!
