BASKETBALL: Port City Power Capricorn Surge has added a fourth confirmed signature for season 2019.
Point guard Kyle Tipene will join Taylor Young, Harold Ridgeway and Stephen Kiir as the Power strive for the Queensland Basketball League playoffs next season under coach Brady Walmsley.
Tipene comes to the Power from the Mt Gambier Pioneers in the South East Australian Basketball League where he recorded averages of seven, three and three points, rebounds and assists per game respectively.
He played 20 games for Pioneers this year and had previously played in the BigV competition for Shepparton Gators where he led the competition in three-point shooting percentage and averaged 16 points per game.
Tipene also played for Martin Methodist in the US College system.
"I am very excited to be a part of the Port City Power program and build something special for the upcoming season. From discussions with coach (Brady) Walmsley, the team being put together will be very exciting and competitive throughout the year," he said.
"I look forward to contributing and developing a winning culture, while being involved in the community of Gladstone when possible.
"This seems to be the direction coach Walmsley is heading and I am eager to support that environment.
"I am motivated to meet my teammates."
Walmsley said Tipene would offer determination in defence and offence and the ability to create.
