WATCH: 20 rocking horses for kids thanks to Bay Men’s Shed
KINDY kids in North Brisbane childcare centres will get a stash of rocking horses sent all the way from Hervey Bay.
The special delivery is all thanks to the handiwork of the men at the Hervey Bay Men's Shed.
The project was requested by a son-in-law of one of the gents, who owns several childcare services in Brisbane.
About ten chaps there spent about 100 hours in total making the 20 rocking horses by hand.
The rockers and horse frames were jig sawed out, assembled together and painted bright hues of red and yellow.
President Ian Jones said it kept them busy from about 8am until noon every Monday, Wednesday and Thursday for the past few months.
The group will now focus on building 'buddy seats' for school kids looking for a mate to play with during break times and refurbishing seats from a Bay golf club.
While Torquay's Dan Dinna House has served the 32 members of the Hervey Bay Men's Shed group well, a new location along Booral Rd is sought.
The new address will accommodate the group's gift from the Army, a barracks once destined for the Vietnam War, similar to the one which now serves the Toogoom RSL.
It is expected to arrive in the coming weeks, Mr Jones said.
The Hervey Bay Men's Shed is at 459 Boat Harbour Drive Dan Dinna House, Torquay.
