Warwick wins title yet again
BRENDAN Warwick is on a roll.
The 24-year-old managed to hold on and beat his opponent, Peter Kammholz, to win his forth straight men's open title at the McDonald's Gladstone Closed Tennis Championships at the weekend.
"It's the toughest win I've had," he said.
"Peter was just serving so well.
"I just tried to hold on and I did in the end."
Warwick and Kammholz then took the court together to win the Open Doubles competition.
"We were tired by the end of the day," Warwick said.
"But I've been working with my trainer Sheila Daly and have dropped 13 kilos which helped me a lot."
Another stand out performer was 16-year-old Dayle Mitchell.
She won her sixth consecutive Gladstone Women's title after a tough match against Shalyn Vance.
But Vance bounced back to beat Mitchell in the under 18 singles final.
On top of the open singles championships, competitors battled it out in the Open, A, B and C-grade singles contests as well as doubles and mixed doubles competitions. Yesterday the under-18s fought it out in the aged singles competition.
