Warriors chase bragging rights as women’s sides collide

SOFTBALL: They’re sitting pretty at the top of the Toowoomba Softball Association standings, but the Warriors women aren’t letting the foot off the pedal.

As the Warriors prepare for an intra-club clash of their two teams at Kearneys Spring this weekend, Green coach Chris Edards praised the level of which his side has been able to compete at this season.

Unbeaten through the first phase of the season, Warriors (G) recorded a big win over the All Stars at the weekend.

“The girls are batting well and smashing everything,” Edards said.

“We’ve got a few players from last year’s team and a few of our U14s and U17s playing up.

“With our club we’ve divided things up to get two teams into the competition, and all the juniors that have stepped up are playing well.”

Their next test comes in the form of Warriors White on Saturday, and Edards isn’t taking their opponents lightly as they chase bragging rights.

“The last game we played was nice and close. There’s always bragging rights on the line,” he said.

“I think they’re a grand final contender. They’ve got a good, young side with some quality seniors.

“Bridie Nicol is one of their U14s players who is pitching, and she kept us to nil last time (when on the mound).

“She made the Queensland team this year and has a really good future. She’s one of the best young pitchers I’ve seen coming through.”
