Pop-up shops wanted for Gladstone's CBD

EXPRESSIONS of interest are being sought from microbusiness operators who are interested in being part of Pop-up Enterprises in the Gladstone CBD throughout May and June.

Microbusiness refers to small scale home-based businesses, franchises, independent contractors, importers, exporters, and online or family businesses with up to five employees.

Mayor Matt Burnett said limited free places would be offered in Gladstone Library Square as part of Council's Connect, Innovate and Create pilot program to support microbusinesses within the region.

The Pop-up Enterprises will operate from 3pm to 8pm on May 12-14, May 26-28 and June 9-11.

"Council is seeking expressions of interest from a diverse range of Gladstone Region microbusinesses ranging from arts and crafts to clothing, souvenirs, recycled items and health products," Cr Burnett said.

The council will organise stalls, chairs and entertainment free of charge for Pop-up Enterprise participants.

Cr Burnett said the Library Square space was an ideal council asset in which to promote developing microbusinesses.

"This is a prime CBD site as the Gladstone City Library generates large volumes of patrons daily," he said.

"The Pop-up Enterprise concept will operate on a small-scale at present but has the potential to lead to creation of a communal business hub in the future."

For information on Pop-up Enterprises or to submit an expression of interest contact the council's strategic community inclusion officer Luis Arroyo on 4976 6352 or luisa@gladstonerc.qld.gov.au.
