LOOKING for something to do in the Gladstone region this weekend? Here's a rundown of some of the events and activities available.

FRIDAY:

SUNfest Showcase

WEEKS of SUNfest workshops will culminate in the SUNfest Showcase at Gladstone Entertainment Convention Centre from 6.30pm to 8.30pm.

Audience members can expect to see stories told using recycled lanterns, Glee-style performances, various styles of dance including hip-hop and ballet and drama performances.

The showcase kicks off at 6.30pm at the Gladstone Entertainment and Convention Centre, with everyone around the region welcome to watch their kids and friends perform.

Entry is free.

Plenty of fun and prizes at Summer Lovin' disco

GLADSTONE PCYC Roller Derby League will host a Summer Lovin' roller disco on Friday night with the hottest tunes, games and prizes up for grabs.

The all-age roller disco is on from 6.30pm to 9.30pm. Entry is $10 at the door which includes skate hire.

The PCYC is at 53 Yarroon St, Gladstone.

Winter Magic ice skating and tobogganing

THE Gladstone Entertainment Centre Marquee will transform into a winter wonderland until January 26.

Daily sessions of ice skating and toboganning will be held at 10am, noon, 2pm, 4pm and 7.30pm, with evening sessions on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 7.30pm to 9.30pm.

Tickets cost $18 for teens over 14, $16 for children 6-14, $10 for children 3-5, $60 family and $15 concession. A parent and child aged from 3-5 years can get a ticket for $22.

Miriam Vale Lions Markets in the Park

THE Miriam Vale Lions Club hosts the Miriam Vale Markets every third Saturday of the month from 7am to noon.

Stroll through the delightful cool and shady park to view a variety of stalls, or tempt your taste buds with a sizzling fillet steak, sausage or bacon burger.

Give belly dancing a go

IF you've always wanted to try belly dancing, Veils of Arabia will give a free lesson at the QCWA Hall in Oaka Lane on Saturday at 4.30pm and in Benaraby at 10am at the Benaraby Progress Hall.

Bookings are a must and numbers are limited. It's great for fun and fitness for women of all ages, sizes and fitness levels.

Sign up for gymnastics

GLADSTONE Gymnastics will hold its sign on day on Saturday at the Gladstone Gymnastics Club in the PCYC building on Yarroon St.

Openings are available in all disciplines including the kindergym for ages one to five and general gymnastics, ages six to eight, and the levels program for those over nine-years-old.

Get fit with Parkrun

STOCKLAND Gladstone and Parkrun Australia have launched a unique, community run program that provides free weekly timed 5km running events for people of all ages and abilities every Saturday morning from 7am-8am at Lions Park.

Enjoy live music at Sunday session

JACKSON Dunn will bring his vibe to Bojangles' Sunday session as well as returning to perform for an Australia Day special event at Bojangles on Sunday, January 26.

Jackson has been labelled by Tsunami Magazine as an absolute powerhouse performer. His rock and roots gig has seen him make it on the Triple J unearthed artists.

Grab a bargain at the K-Mart markets

THE Rotary Club of Gladstone Midday Markets are held on the third Sunday of each month and feature a wide range of stalls including food, coffee, cakes, jewellery, hand made soaps and plants to kids toys, clothes and bric-a-brac.

There is also entertainment from local artists. 

The markets are held in the K-Mar car park, Philip St, Gladstone, from 6am to 1.30pm.

Discovery Coast Markets

THE Discovery Coast Markets are held on the second and fourth Sunday of each month at the SES Grounds between Agnes Water and Seventeen Seventy.

Come and browse the arts and crafts, bric-a-brac and fresh produce available to purchase from 8am to noon.

During the school holidays the markets are held every Sunday.

Cedar Galleries farmers markets

FARMERS Markets are held every Sunday at Cedar Galleries. The markets provide locally grown fresh produce, various market stalls, rides and jumping castles for the kids.

Come along for breakfast or coffee and cake at the cafe, and don't forget to say hi to the popular alpacas.

The markets run from 8am to noon at 49544 Bruce Hwy, Benaraby.
