Wanderlust long on hold finally set free in England

Folks, if everything has gone to plan, I am somewhere in England, standing in the cold, drizzling rain and loving every minute of it!

I can't tell you how long it's taken me to save up for this trip; well, actually I can.

As a young buck, I'd squirrelled away a nest egg to get my spotty backside overseas, which came in rather handy when I ended up unemployed during the 'Recession We Had to Have'.

Years more saving followed, and that rather conveniently provided the money we needed to get married, start a family and buy a bigger car.

My travel plans returned to the backburner.

Our 'fixer-upper' home battered my next stash, before it was completely totalled by the grim event we now refer to as: 'The Day of the Power Surge'.

Ironically, not one of the electrical goods we bought to replace all the ones that were fried that fateful day, is with us now.

I'm ashamed to admit that I gave up hope of travelling to foreign climes.

I cheered wildly for friends who made it overseas, and proudly retold their exploits as if they were my own.

So when the Eldest Princess boarded an aircraft for Europe, I watched her go with tears of joy filling my eyes.

Upon her return, she regaled us with tales of her adventures and discoveries, and that's when my long dormant travel bug woke up and bit me. Hard.

So, just after New Year's Day, I walked into a travel agency, pulled a wad of cash out of my pocket and cried, "Quick! Get me out of here!"

Hopefully, if all goes to plan, Long Suffering Wife will be too cold and wet to worry about where I got the money from.
