Wallabys need turnaround in final

ALL that stands between Gladstone Wallabys and a Challenge Cup grand final date with Rockhampton Brothers is today's preliminary final against Yeppoon Seagulls at Rockhampton's Browne Park.

Wallabys found form with a win over local league champions Gladstone Brothers in last week's knock-out final, but Yeppoon have been their bogey side this season in Challenge Cup competition.

The Seagulls beat Wallabys 38-16 in round three and backed it up with a 44-10 drubbing in round 12, meaning Dan McAllister's men will need to well on top of their game to claim victory and a grand final berth.

In reserve grade, Gladstone Brothers will tackle CQU Norths for the right to challenge Yeppoon for the Challenge Cup title.

Brothers' Gladstone Rugby League premiership winning captain Russel Groth said that his “red hot” Fish are ready for the clash after their victory over Fitzroy last week.

“It will be another good test for us but I think we've got the team to do it,” he said.

Valleys meet CQU Norths in the under-20s for the chance to play Rockhampton Brothers in their grand final. A-grade kicks off at 6pm.
