LETTER: Is walking the streets on Halloween dangerous?

Letter to the editor from Ruth Heading, of Gladstone

I NOTICE that a number of businesses are stocking symbols which depict ancient events that had their beginnings about 750BC when Celts had a "festival of Samhain" (the Lord of death and decay).

October 31 is said to be a sacred day to those who follow Wicca (witchcraft).

This information is from World Book Encyclopaedia and Atlas of Ancient Worlds.

We are supposed to protect children from evil and danger, so is it okay to walk the streets at night, knock on the doors of strangers and accept sweets from anyone?
